5 NFL Games Worth Watching In Week 9
The Big Game
Green Bay (6-1) at Carolina (7-0) – Sunday, November 8 1:00 PM ET
For the second week in a row, Green Bay are heading into enemy territory against an undefeated opponent. The 7-0 Panthers are considered a two-and-a-half point home underdog in Sunday’s afternoon tilt versus the NFC North leading Packers. Green Bay’s middle tier rush defense will have its hands full versus a multifaceted Carolina offense that averages 144 ground yards a game. Speaking of offensive challenges, Pack QB Aaron Rodgers is still trying to sort out a passing attack that’s been underwhelming and hampered by injury. The Panthers D have racked up 12 picks so far this season and they’re aiming to have more once Week 9 is through.
Four More To Watch
St. Louis (4-3) at Minnesota (5-2) – Sunday, November 8 1:00 PM ET
The Vikings are looking to go 6-2 and possibly try the Pack in the standings this weekend. Minnesota, favoured by a field goal on Sunday, has been squeaking out some close wins this year and will now face Rookie of the Year frontrunner Todd Gurley who has obliterated defenses all year. Mind you, Adrian Peterson is a half-bad backfield option for Minnesota to have on their side. St. Louis looked great thumping the 49ers last week and has maintained a relatively stingy 17.9 opponent score average throughout 2015.
Oakland (4-3) at Pittsburgh (4-4) – Sunday, November 8 1:00 PM ET
Who would have guessed Oakland would head into Week 9 with a better record than Pittsburgh? To be fair, the Steelers have been hampered by injury in 2015. Big Ben was on the shelf for a stretch and Le’Veon Bell’s MCL injury has brought the ax down on his season. Can Mike Tomlin get his squad back on track? The Raiders are in no mood to accomodate and have quietly morphed into a team with one of the better offenses in the National Football League. Oddsmakers are somewhat confident that the Steelers will win at Heinz Field and peg Pittsburgh as a 4.5 point favourite for this Sunday’s contest.
New York (4-4) at Tampa Bay (3-4) – Sunday, November 8 4:05 PM ET
Do the Giants have another barnburner left in them? More importantly, could they get the W this time around? The NFC East leading G-Men put up 49 points in a loss to New Orleans in Week 8 and now they clash with a Bucs team that pulled off an OT victory over the Falcons. Jameis Winston is morphing from freshman QB to promising pivot as the weeks roll on and that should make Tampa football fans very happy. New York, who wouldn’t mind a bit more space at the top of the standings, are favoured by a field goal on the road.
Denver (7-0) at Indianapolis (3-5) – Sunday, November 8 4:30 PM ET
The AFC South has been a complete trainwreck in 2015 and Peyton Manning is coming to town to do his old club zero favours. Denver continues their pursuit of a perfect record and have been provided with three point favourite status in their Sunday Night Matchup with Andrew Luck and the Colts. Not only do the Broncos want to win to hit 8-0, but a victory would make Peyton the player with the most all-time wins as a starting quarterback.
