MLS Predictions Analysis & Weekend Recap
The Weekend That Was In MLS
Toronto FC 1 – 0 FC Dallas
Toronto FC played its first home game of the 2016 MLS season this weekend, after eight games on the road, and they secured all three points with a one-nil victory over FC Dallas.
It was the first time the Toronto fans got to see their newly refurbished stadium and they did the venue proud. If this game is anything to go by, the BMO Field is going to be a seriously imposing MLS stadium. The Reds faithful were treated to a 28th minute goals from Tsubasa Endoh, which was enough to seal victory for Toronto.
Toronto are now up to second place in the Eastern Conference and take on fellow Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps this weekend.
L.A. Galaxy 4 – 2 New England Revolution
L.A. Galaxy moved up to second place in the MLS Western Conference following their 4-2 victory at home to New England Revolution, a result that leaves the Revs without an away win from six games on the road.
Robbie Keane gifted the hosts the lead on 13 minutes, Giovani dos Santos doubled their advantage 11 minutes later, before Keane bagged a brace in the first minute of injury time at the end of the first half.
The Revs pulled one back in the 678th minute through a Kelyn Rowe goal, before a 70th minute strike from Juan Agudelo set up a nervy final 20 minutes. Agudelo then rattled the crossbar in the 83rd minute for a huge left off for Galaxy, before Steven Gerrard ensured the win was registered by scoring Galaxy’s fourth in the third minute of stoppage time.
Galaxy travel to Philadelphia Union this week, while New England entertain struggling Chicago Fire.
DC United 0 – 2 NYCFC
DC United were left to rue a host of missed chances as they slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of NYCFC. United managed 10 shots across the 90-minutes, but didn’t make the NYCFC keeper make a single save as all 10 were off target.
NYCFC, on the other hand, hit the target with five of their 11 shots, which includes a seventh goals of the season for the seemingly unstoppable Spaniard David Villa. Khiry Shelton also got on the scoresheet.
The win takes NYCFC up to 13 points for the season, enough for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
