Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (September 17 Edition)
5. Los Angeles Dodgers
Odds To Win The World Series: 6/1
It’s that magical time of the year where the Dodgers dip out of “what’s wrong with Los Angeles?” mode to start putting terror in the hearts of opponents. The club, who’s been a fixture atop of the NL West, are now the hunt for the valuable second seed in the National League playoff race. Arms like Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke increase the likelihood of such placement and the Dodgers winning seven of their last ten doesn’t hurt either. Rookie shortstop Corey Seager is also making his mark and that creates a luxury problem when Jimmy Rollins returns from his finger injury.
4. Kansas City Royals
Odds To Win The World Series: 11/2
The Royals have had the AL Central wrapped up for ages now, so you can understand where they might be light on spark in September. That said, losing three of your last twelve contests is never a good look for a reigning American League champ. One way to revive themselves is to sort out a rotation that’s only provided 60 quality starts this season. Johnny Cueto’s rough ride as a Royal ranks as priority number one on the KC fix it list.
3. Toronto Blue Jays
Odds To Win The World Series: 7/2
Are the Jays the class of the American League right now? It certainly looks that way. The team sits two games back of the Royals for top spot in the AL and enjoyed the fruits of an important 3-out-of-4 victory weekend in The Bronx. Toronto is the dominant forces in the Majors when it comes to runs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and home runs. One tough spot is waiting for star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to return, but a repositioned Ryan Goins has looked great in Tulo’s absence.
2. Pittsburgh Pirates
Odds To Win The World Series: 9/1
The Bucs found themselves in a hard fought series with the Chicago Cubs this week and have only emerged with (so far) one win in their three shots. That’s a little disappointing considering that the Cards have had a shaky September with ground to be gained, but Pittsburgh still looked very good and their pitching has featured the second lowest ERA in the game today. The Pirates are definitely in an interesting spot. They’re now only four games away from the Cards and yet only three games up on Joe Maddon’s Cubs. It should be an interesting run of divisional play in the NL Central from here on out.
1. St. Louis Cardinals
Odds To Win The World Series: 13/2
St. Louis hasn’t exactly had the best go of things in September. Before launching their three game win streak, the Cards had only won two of their last nine contests. The ship has been partially righted thanks to a week that’s included games against the Reds and Brewers. St. Louis are still the best team in the National League, but they’ve managed to look awfully vulnerable this month.
