Preview Of MLS Weekend Betting
MLS Game Betting Lines & Match Thoughts
Orlando City (+130) vs. New York Red Bulls (+175)
Orlando City play host to a New York Red Bulls teams that has started the 2016 MLS season badly, but who have won their previous two fixtures to begin climbing back up the Eastern Conference.
The home side will be without long term absentees Conor Donovan and Pedro Ribeiro, the latter having undergone back surgery, but they could welcome back Kaka into the fray, and we all love a Brazilian now don’t we?
This is the second time the two sides have met this season, and the second time in three weeks, with the Red Bulls running out 3-2 winners in Harrison, helped by a brace from Bradley Wright-Phillips. Last weekend, the Red Bulls demolished FC Dallas 4-0, the second time they have scored four goals this season.
Although they have been very hit-or-miss so far this season, I believe that the Red Bulls have a very good chance of making it three wins on the spin, and they get the nod from me.
Pick: New York Red Bulls at +175
Seattle Sounders (-110) vs. San Jose Earthquakes (+295)
The Seattle Sounders seem to be hitting a good patch of form having won their third game in five outings last week when a late Jordan Morris goal, his third in as many games, sealed a 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew SC.
San Jose Earthquakes are still without a win on their travels, but won twice at the Centurylink Field in 2015, winning 2-0 and 3-2, although they were the first victories in Seattle since 2012. Much will depend on the continued form of Chris Wondolowski, who has been playing like the similar sounding Robert Lewandowsk, who has banged in seven goals so far this season.
I’m going to go with a Seattle victory, but would not blame you for betting on the tie, which you get odds of around +250.
Pick: Seattle Sounders at -110
Columbus Crew SC (+100) vs. Montreal Impact (+265)
Who would have predicted that last year’s MLS Cup runners-up would be second from bottom in the Eastern conference after eight games played? Not us, that is for sure, but that is the situation at Columbus Crew SC right now.
Crew seem to be playing some good football, but good football doesn’t win you games, goals win you games, and the Crew simply aren’t scoring enough; their strikers are more wasteful than a typical Las Vegas buffet.
If, and it is big if, the out of sorts Kei Kamara can rediscover his touch in front of goal, the Crew stand a chance of walking away with all three points, but I feel they will have to score at least two goals to beat the high-flying Montreal Impact, and I’m not sure they can do that.
Pick: Tie at +250
