Raptors Vs Heat Game 7 Playoff Prediction
Who Will Today’s Game 7 Showdown
Toronto Raptors (-4.5) vs. Miami Heat (+4.5)
Playoff series do not get more evenly matched than this one between the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors. Not only have each of the games thus far come down to the final minutes, but for every injury one team has suffered, the other team finds itself dealing with a similar issue.
Hassan Whiteside goes down for the Heat? Jonas Valanciunas gets injured for the Raptors. DeMarre Carroll gets banged up for Toronto? Luol Deng suffers a hand injury for Miami. That’s the kind of back and forth that has punctuated this entire set, making it nearly impossible to suss out a side with the decided advantage leading into Game 7.
Playing at home does favor the Raptors, as having the crowd on your side matters. And their play style isn’t as compromised without Valanciunas as the Heat’s is without Whiteside; if anything their defense improves exponentionally when he sits.
But the Heat have unlocked the best version of Goran Dragic possible by playing super small and pushing the pace. They have let Joe Johnson and Justise Winslow spend ample time at pseudo centers, and the Raptors look out of whack on defense whenver the Heat roll with that pocket sized lineup, which features Dragic, Josh Richardson and Dwyan Wade, in addition to Johnson and Winslow.
That ability to create an inordinate number of mismatches, coupled with the continued inconsistent contributions the Raptors are getting from DeMar DeRozan, makes the Heat a nice pick here.
Even if they don’t win, we can’t ignore the fact that every game has been close. And while the winning squad has routinely pulled away in the final minutes, making it so the score isn’t always reflective of the level of competitiveness that permeated the floor, this is Game 7, this is for everything—this is when legacies rise and fall. There should be no blowout, no clear cut outcome until the final few seconds of the game.
And, as far as spread bets go, that favors the Heat in an obvious way.
Especially because, given the way in which head coach Erik Spoelstra built his rotation in Game 6, Miami might actually win.
The Pick: Heat (+4.5)
