Fight-By-Fight Odds And Predictions

Please note that all lines come courtesy of Bovada and are accurate as of Wednesday, December 19 unless otherwise noted.

Main Event: Jon Jones (-285) vs. Alexander Gustafsson (+225)

The last time Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson faced off, roughly a year-and-a-half ago, it was the former who emerged with the win. Though many thought Gustafsson might’ve had him, the judges awarded Jones a unanimous victory.

The odds last time around, however, were even more in favor of Jones, with Gustafsson laying anywhere between +800 and +1000 lines. That they’re so close this time around speaks to how well he fared in the first meeting, while also nodding towards how much he has improved his fast-twitch stamina.

Even so, Jones, who hasn’t fought in 17 months, has largely dominated everyone he’s come across in the Octagon. This fight should take more gas than he’s accustomed to using up, but he should still pull it out and win the light heavyweight belt.

Prediction: Jon Jones (-285)

Co-Main Event: Cris Cyborg (-260) vs. Amanda Nunes (+200)

Cris “Cyborg” Justino is putting her felterweight title on the line in what is already being deemed one of the greatest women’s MMA fights ever.

Cyborg’s challenger, Amanda Nunes, is quickly becoming known for her crafty wrestling moves. Though her victories largely come by knockouts, she’s adept at completing extended takedowns that force opponents into awkward positions and keep them off-kilter.

With all that in mind, we can’t go against the billed favorite. Cyborg is too dangerous of a striker. She should win by unanimous decision.

Prediction: Cris Cyborg (-260)

Welterweight: Carlos Condit (+160) vs. Michael Chiesa (-200)

Carlos Condit has his work cut out for him at UFC 232. It’s not just that he’s going up against Michael Chiesa, who remains skilled at winning in submission. It’s that he’s going through a rough patch.

Condit, 34, has lost seven of his last nine fights, including four in a row. His takedown accuracy is largely fine, but he’s clearly not hitting on as many of his strikes.

Overall, though, Condit is the better all-around fighter. His offense and defense is on balance, whereas Chiesa is more reliant on his offensive moves.

Prediction: Carlos Condit (+160)

Light Heavyweight: Ilir Latifi (-150) vs. Corey Anderson (+131)

A lot of people are going to be swayed by Corey Anderson‘s slight underdog odds. And, well, they are right to be.

Anderson is the much bigger fighter in both height and length, and he’s landing a significantly higher percentage of his mid-match strikes. Ilir Latifi is an accomplished defensive artist who knows how to pick his spots in takedowns, but his relatively conservative approach may not hold up against Anderson’s higher-octane strategy.

Prediction: Corey Anderson (+131)

Featherweight: Chad Mendes (-155) vs. Alexander Volkanovski (+125)

Alexander Volkanovski offers fairly good underdog value at +125. He is a powerful fighter; he’s landing 57 percentish of his strikes on a high number of attempts per minute. He’s also working on a 15-fight winning streak.

Still, Chad Mendes is more accustomed to the UFC fighting scene. And while he’s not as quick to reload when striking on offense, he’s dead-on accurate.

Combine that with his superb defense, and he figures to throw a wrench in Volkanovski high-volume attack.

Prediction: Chad Mendes (-155)
