Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (August 20 Edition)

Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (August 20 Edition)
It's mid-August which means playoff races are in full effect and it's time to either have faith, panic or get ridiculously cocky about your team's lot in life. Each and every Thursday we try to sort out which teams reign as the five most fearsome clubs in baseball in our weekly MLB Power Rankings.

What an awesome time to be a fan of America’s pastime. The playoff chases are in full swing, every pitch matters and there’s no shortage of late inning heroics. As we do every single Thursday, we’ve rounded up our picks for the five best teams in baseball as of this week. If your team’s in the Top 5, you might want to consider taking some time off work in October. If it’s not, shake the 8 Ball again and check back with us in a week. (Unless you’re a Phillies fan because we all know how that movie’s going to end.)

5. Toronto Blue Jays

Odds To Win The World Series: 4/1

Losing two of three at home to the Yankees kinda killed Toronto’s unkillable mystique, but the Blue Jays are still the apple of the oddmaker’s eye. We can understand why. This team’s looked incredible since the upgrades, the pitching has improved signifcantly (the arrival of David Price and LaTroy Hawkins hasn’t hurt) and they boast a frightening 40-23 record at home. New York’s grip on the AL East lead is a temporary thing.

4. Chicago Cubs

Odds To Win The World Series: 14/1

The NL Central’s spoiled for incredible teams in its top three spots and it’s going to make for one incredible wild card chase. The Chicago Cubs had their nine game win streak snapped this week, but in the process they’ve shown why the National League is losing sleep over facing the Wrigley-based club. Most teams would salivate over the prospect of having just one wonder rookie, but the Cubs boast four: Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Jorge Soler and Kyle Schwarber. Joe Maddon’s crew is dangerous now and in the future.

3. Pittsburgh Pirates

Odds To Win The World Series: 14/1

Elsewhere in the NL Central, the Bucs can hang with the best of ’em. Pittsburgh swept the NL East leading Mets in their three game set at Citi Field and looked playoff ready in the process.

2. St. Louis Cardinals

Odds To Win The World Series: 13/2

Perched atop of the NL Central with the best record in Major League Baseball is the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards have dominant pitching across the board with both their starters and their bullpen leading their respective ERA stat rankings.

1. Kansas City Royals

Odds To Win The World Series: 9/2

Another week, another Kansas City tear. Heck, there’s a very real possibility the Royals could win the AL Central by 25 games of more by the time the season’s through. Speaking of notable achievements, after beating the Reds on Tuesday, KC reached 26 games over .500 for the first time since 1980. The Royals won the American League that year, in case you were curious.
