Hungary are the surprise package of Euro 2016 and they stand a realistic chance of progressing to the next round when they face a Belgium side who look like 11 individuals and not a team.
Hungary vs Belgium Prediction & Preview
By Matt Pitt
Hungary are the surprise package of Euro 2016 so far having finished top of Group F above Iceland and Portugal, almost eliminating the latter from the tournament.
A 2-0 win over Austria was followed by a 1-1 draw against Iceland, and a thrilling 3-3 draw against Portugal to cement their place in the round of 16.
Odds of +600 are available on a Hungarian victory, which seem very long when you consider they have no problems in scoring goals, and Belgium are still inconsistent to say the least. Compare Hungary’s odds to the -153 for a Belgium win and you can spot the value from a mile away.
I actually think that Hungary could take this game to extra time, so the +260 on the draw in 90-minutes is likely the bet I will make come June 26.
If Belgium turn on the style and their 11 stars manage to knit as a team they should, in theory, win this game comfortably. However, there are still reports coming out of the Belgian camp about player unrest, and that is a distraction they can ill afford.
On his day, Romelu Lukaku is one of the best forwards in the world, which is why he is +333 to score first and +140 to find the back of the net at anytime. If Lukaku is up for this game, Hungary could find themselves in all sorts of trouble.
Belgium’s last five matches have seen 13 goals, while Hungary’s last five games have seen 12, so everything points to this fixture having plenty of goalmouth action.
Both teams to score can be had for +150 and the over 2.5 goals market currently stands at +750.
As mentioned, I can see this going to extra time, but Belgium still progressing. Those odds are -400 with most bookmakers, so not great value, meaning you are better off betting on the result across the initial 90-minutes.
