NYCFC (+100) vs. Montreal Impact (+250)
Last season’s Eastern Conference runners-up, NYCFC, slipped up and lost 1-0 on the opening weekend when they traveled to Orlando City. The loss, however, only tells part of the tale because NYCFC were the better side and the result would have been different had it not been for some heroic goalkeeping by Orlando’s Joe Bendik.
Last time these two teams played, NYCFC finished 4-0 winners at home to D.C. United and looked unstoppable in attack. David Villa scored a brace and looks like he will once again challenge for the Golden Boot come the end of the season.
Montreal Impact are winless this season after a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of San Jose Earthquakes. They were then pegged back by Seattle Sounders despite leading 2-0 with only seven minutes of the game remaining.
These teams have only met five times previously and NYCFC have won three of those. Impact have one win in five attempts. At Yankee Stadium, honors are evenly split and there have been 10 goals scored in the three encounters with neither side keeping a clean sheet.
Pick: Both teams to score at -200
FC Dallas (-125) vs. New England Revolution (+275)
FC Dallas, the reigning Supporters Shield holders, play their first home game of the season this weekend when they host New England Revolution. Dallas were immense at home in 2016, finishing with a 12-1-4 record with only Colorado Rapids, who were unbeaten on home soil, losing fewer games.
New England were terrible on their travels last season, losing 10 of their 17 fixtures (2-10-5), which is why Dallas are huge favorites in this latest encounter. Dallas have won all five of previous meetings with the Revs with the last three games in Dallas ending 3-0, 2-0 and 1-0 in favor of the home side.
It is difficult to see past any result other than a Dallas victory, especially as New England have only won once in 10 games on the road, including last season’s results.
Pick: FC Dallas at -125
