LA Galaxy (-115) vs. Portland Timbers (+335)
Surprisingly, Bovada shortened LA Galaxy’s odds on winning the 2017 MLS Cup to +550 despite the Los Angeles outfit slipping up and losing 2-1 at home to FC Dallas on opening weekend.
Galaxy are at home again this week where they face a Portland Timbers team who smashed five goals past a hapless Minnesota United in the first game of the 2017 season.
While Galaxy lost their first game of the season, they dominated in terms of possession (65.5%). The MLS Cup favorites bled a handful of new signings and once they gel together, Galaxy should be a serious force this season.
Portland won 5-1 against new franchise Minnesota United, a scoreline that flattered them as two of the goals came in second half injury time. Galaxy will provide a much tougher test for the Timbers this weekend and I would be surprised if they returned home with all three points.
This game ended 1-1 in April 2016 with Timbers winning 5-2 ion the road in October 2015. Galaxy ran out 5-0 winners in June 2015. In fact, over the course of the past five meetings between these sides, there have been 21 goals scored for an average of 4.2 goals per game, making the both teams to score market at -135 look like a steal.
Pick: Both teams to score at -135
Montreal Impact (+125) vs. Seattle Sounders (+220)
Impact fell 1-0 away to San Jose Earthquakes after the ‘Quakes managed to successfully shackle Ignacio Piatti. He managed only one shot on goal and completed a mere 30% of his passes in the attacking third. If the Sounders can marshall Piatti as well as the Earthquakes did then Montreal could be in trouble.
The Sounders were punished for a lacklustre start in their game against a new-look Houston Dynamo and found themselves 2-0 down by half time. Sounders did pull a goal back but it was too little too late.
Impact have now lost 11 games in a row when they have gone a goal behind. If your sportsbook offers in-play betting and Sounders score first it may be worth putting a bet on Sounders to go on and win.
You should also be aware that four of the past five games between the Impact and Sounders have seen one of the sides win by shutout.
Pick: Both teams not to score at +110
