Portland Timbers (-114) vs. Montreal Impact (+285)
Portland Timbers have home advantage in their midweek game against Montreal Impact, and they know a victory could push them into the playoff places in the Western Conference.
The Timbers have been superb at home, boasting a 6-2-1 record; if only their away form was not 0-4-6 they could be challenging for the conference title. Timbers are unbeaten in seven games, but face a stern test when Impact head to Providence Park.
Both teams were in action at the weekend, Portland drawing 0-0 away at the Red Bulls, and Impact drawing 1-1 away at Salt Lake, and this could play a major role in how this game finishes.
Impact have a daunting 4,750 km trip to Portland’s ground, and that is far from ideal preparation for any soccer match, and is one of the reasons I believe the Timbers will live up to their -114 favorites tag and claim all three points against Impact.
Pick: Portland Timbers to win at -114
Seattle Sounders (+136) vs. FC Dallas (+205)
Seattle Sounders find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference with a rather disappointing 5-10-2 record. They are also ranked last in the entire MLS in terms of goals scored, having only found the back of the net 14 times in 17 games.
One thing working in the Sounders’ favour is the fact they have won the past five meetings between themselves and FC Dallas when on home soil, but Dallas are firing on all cylinders right now and are going to be formidable opponents, especially when a win would put them six points clear in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.
Dallas have to navigate a 3,336 km trip to the Sounders ground, which could take a lot out of them mentally and physically, yet I believe Dallas will have too much in their locker to not beat the Sounders. It is time for Dallas to break their poor record against Seattle.
Pick: FC Dallas to win at +250
Chicago Fire (+140) vs. Sporting Kansas City (+200)
Chicago Fire are inconsistent at home (3-2-3) while Sporting Kansas City’s away form is sporadic (3-5-2) making this a difficult game to predict, a fact reflecting in the latest betting odds.
Fire at +140 favorites despite being rock bottom of the MLS. Scoring goals has been a problem for Fire this season (15 in 16 games), but they have only conceded 21; only four teams in the MLS have conceded fewer goals.
Sporting should be full of confidence after beating high-flying NYCFC 3-1 at the weekend, plus they welcome back top scorer, with eight goals, Dominic Dwyer after he served a suspension for yellow card accumulation.
These sides have not met at the Toyota Stadium since 2014 when the Fire won 2-1, yet I fancy a Sporting win at +200, although the draw at +240 is also quite tempting and I would not blame you for betting on it.
Pick: Sporting Kansas City to win at +200
