New England Revolution (-250) vs. Minnesota United (+700)
New England Revolution go into their home tie against Minnesota United looking for both their first points and first goals from open play this season.
Two defeats and a postponed game has left the Revs languishing near the bottom of the table but it is early days and they should be given plenty of opportunities to score against a Minnesota team conceding an average of 4.3 goals per game.
The Revs chances are boosted by the fact they have no new injury concerns, no suspended players and none of their roster was called up for international duty.
Minnesota have endured a dreadful start to the campaign, losing 5-1 away at Portland Timbers, 6-1 at home to Atlanta United FC and drawing 2-2 away at Colorado Rapids. There isn’t a soccer team in the world who can defend as poorly as Minnesota and expect to come away with a share of the spoils.
The -167 on there being over 2.5 goals looks like a steal although I wouldn’t be put off betting the over 3.5 goals market at +150 either. Minnesota look half decent going forward so -125 on both teams scoring is also a good bet.
Pick: Over 2.5 goals at -167
New York Red Bulls (-200) vs. Real Salt Lake (+550)
Red Bulls are on a 15-game home unbeaten run (13-0-2) and have outscored their opponents 33-10, keeping nine clean sheets during those games. While the Red Bulls will miss the creativity of Sacha Kljestan (on international duty with USA), Salt Lake are without four key players through international duty (Nick Rimando, Albert Rusnak, Joao Plato and Jordan Allen) and injury. Kyle Beckerman is suspended while a trio of players are struggling for fitness (Aaron Maund, Justen Glad and David Horst).
Salt Lake also have a caretaker manager in place after they sacked coach Jeff Cassar, who had been in charge since 2014, following their poor start to the season. Everything points towards a Red Bulls victory.
Pick: New York Red Bulls to win at -200
Columbus Crew (+105) vs. Portland Timbers (+230)
The Columbus Crew versus Portland Timbers games are usually entertaining, not least because the two sides met in the 2015 MLS Cup final. Timbers won that match 2-1 and Crew will be looking for a bit of revenge in 2017 by securing all three points.
Crew, with a current 1-1-1 record, have a difficult task on their hands. Timbers are running red hot with three straight victories. They have scored 10 goals so far, six of which came in a 6-1 drubbing of lowly Minnesota United.
Timbers have won the last three games against Crew 2-1, with two of those occurring in Ohio. You have to go back to July 2013 to find the last Crew win in this clash. If you think it will be 2-1 to Timbers for the fourth consecutive year, you will be able to get odds of around +1000.
Pick: Portland timbers at +230More articles...
