Nashvill Predators vs. St. Louis Blues Betting Tips
By Angelo Montilla
Just five points separated these two Central Division rivals, which indicates the Western Conference semifinal between the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues will be almost too close to call.
Various sportsbooks also believe it will be a tightly contested matchup, including Bovada, which has this best-of-seven tilt a pick ‘em series with both clubs at -110 to advance to the third round.
If you’re expecting a high-scoring affair in this series, think again. The Predators are coming off a shocking sweep over the Chicago Blackhawks in which the club only surrendered three goals. That’s a goals against per game average of 0.75.
Much of that success was due largely to Preds goaltender Pekke Rinne, who has a goals-against average of 0.70 and a remarkable save percentage of .976.
The series gets underway on April 26 in St. Louis where the Blues boasted a 24-12-5 record this season. The Blues enter action as -125 favorites to win the opening matchup of what is sure to be a long, grueling series. The Predators head to St. Louis for Game 1 as -105 underdogs.
Who will strike first in this series?
Both the Predators and Blues won their opening matches in the last round and history shows the team that takes the first game has a much greater chance of moving on.
Bovada is offering an intriguing +525 line that the Blues will escape Game 1 with a one-goal victory over the Predators.
The Blues will have to improve on their shot differential against a hungry Predators team. St. Louis is averaging 26.8 shots per game while giving up 36.4. While goaltender Jake Allen was the savior in the opening round, the Blues will have to take some of the pressure off their young star netminder.
The head-to-head series has been a lot closer than many may expect, with the Blues winning six of the last 10 meetings against their Central Division foes. However, it’s been the Preds that have won two of the last three contests.
Don’t expect many over outcomes in a series that features two of the best defensive clubs in the NHL. Two of the last 10 games between the Blues and Preds have gone over the projected total goals line.
This is another series that is expected to go the distance, however the Blues have more scoring depth that will lift them to the Western Conference final. Take St. Louis over Nashville in seven games.
Pick: St. Louis Blues (-110)
