NHL Saturday Betting Lines Analysis

NHL Saturday Betting Lines Analysis
We’re in the home stretch and playoff races are heating up. The Maple Leafs, who are trying to make the post-season for the first time since 2013, will attempt to inch closer with a victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. In other action, the Nashville Predators host the Minnesota Wild in a Central Division clash.

Here are a few NHL betting options to consider, with odds courtesy of BetOnline.

Toronto Maple Leafs (-136) vs. Detroit Red Wings (+123)

Leafs

For a young club, the Toronto Maple Leafs have battled through the pressure to stay in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. With two straight victories, the Maple Leafs hope to make it three in a row on Saturday night when they take on the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

The Leafs — winners of seven of their last 10 games — enter action on Saturday as -136 favorites on the road, where the club has managed to post a 17-14-8 record this season. The Red Wings, who will miss the playoffs for the first time in 25 years, are +123 underdogs and will be looking to play spoilers.

The Leafs haven’t been just about offense of late. Criticized for having a weak defensive core, Toronto boasts an 82.8 percent penalty kill rating. The Leafs have killed off the last 8 of 9 penalties — an area that helped the team steal points in a recent road victory in Nashville.

A series once dominated by the Wings has tilted in favor of the Maple Leafs, who have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the Original Six rivals.

If you’re betting the total, BetOnline has set the line at 5.5. Both these clubs score in bunches when they clash. Take the over with the Leafs winning again.

Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs (-136) and the Over (5.5)

Nashville Predators (-121) vs. Minnesota Wild (+110)

Predators

The Preds may be sitting comfortably in a wild-card spot, but the club is looking to sneak back into the top three in the Central Division. To do that, the Preds will need to get past a division foe — the Minnesota Wild — on Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena.

Nashville, who has dropped its last two, enter action as -121 favorites on home ice, where the club has an incredible 23-9-7 record this season. The Wild — struggling at the wrong time with just two wins in their last 10 games — are enticing +110 underdogs.

NHL odds

Peter Laviolette’s team loves to race up and down the ice creating offense and it’s shown this season as the Preds rank ninth in goals for, averaging 2.92 per game.

Head-to-head, the series over the last 10 meetings has been fairly even, with the Wild winning six times during that stretch.

The Preds are a high-scoring team on home ice, so take the over on BetOnline’s total goals projection of 5.5.

Pick: Nashville Predators (-121) and the Over

Carolina Hurricanes (-160) vs. Dallas Stars (+144)

Hurricanes

The Cardiac Canes are still alive. With back-to-back victories, the Carolina Hurricanes sit just four points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference heading into another crucial matchup Saturday against the Dallas Stars.

The Hurricanes — boasting a 7-0-3 record over their last 10 games — are -160 favorites on home ice, where the club has played its best hockey of the year. The Stars have been tumbling down the Western Conference standings and head to Raleigh, N.C., as the +144 underdogs.

Goaltending was a real issue for the Hurricanes early on in the season but strong performances from netminder Cam Ward, who has won three of the last four, has the club in the thick of the playoff battle.

The Canes have had their issues against the Stars in the past 10 meetings, winning just two of those games during that span.

Games tend to get tighter this time of year and as good as the Canes have been offensively of late, take the under on the 5.5 total goals projection.

Pick: Carolina Hurricanes (-160) and the Under (5.5)
