The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins want another shot at the NHL championship. First they will have to face a tough Ottawa Senators club in the Eastern Conference Final, beginning on Friday night.

Sens Pens

Two clubs coming off hard-fought Game 7 victories will do battle when the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference Final.

The best-of-seven series gets underway on Saturday night, with the Penguins going in as the -280 favorites to defeat the Senators and head back to the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year. The Senators — +240 underdogs — are the only Canadian team remaining in the playoffs and can return to the big dance for the first time since 2007 when they lost in the championship.

Bovada has already set a variety of enticing prop bets for the series, including point projections for many players from both clubs.

Will Evgeni Malkin — the NHL’s leading playoff point-getter collect more than seven points in this series? Bovada has set the total points projection for the Russian sniper with payout odds of -115 regardless if you wager over or under. While that may be a higher-risk wager, Phil Kessel recording more than five points in this series seems like a safer bet. He has 13 points in 12 post-season games.

NHL odds

Picking the correct series score can really pay off. While some think this could be a flat-out sweep for the Penguins, expect a tighter series that could easily go six or seven games. Pittsburgh taking down Ottawa in six pays an intriguing +375 payout while a seven-game victory would pay +400.

You can also bet on where the series will end. With the Penguins holding home-ice advantage, the club could potentially end things in a seventh game at PPG Paints Arena. The betting line on that scenario pays -140.

The Penguins hold the advantage in the head-to-head meetings, defeating the Senators six times over the last 10 meetings between the two clubs.

No team in the NHL has won back-to-back Stanley Cup crowns since the Detroit Red Wings accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998. Will the Pens another kick at the can with a victory over the Senators? All signs are pointing in the right direction.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins (-280)
