Here are a few NHL betting options to consider, with odds courtesy of BetOnline.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are gaining ground in the race for first place in the Metropolitan Division. Sidney Crosby and Co. can inch closer to the top on Saturday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at PPG Paints Arena.
Winners of six of their last 10 games, the Penguins enter action on Saturday night as -205 favorites on home ice, where they’ve lost just four times all season long. The Flyers, once pushing for a playoff spot, have been floundering with just three wins in their last 10 games. The Flyers head to Pittsburgh as +185 underdogs.
The Penguins have been scoring at a scary pace this season, leading the league with a 3.47 goals per game average. It doesn’t hurt when your top two players (Crosby and Evgeni Malkin) sit second and eighth in league scoring, respectively.
As good as the Pens have been of late, this series always seems to result in close battles. The Flyers surprisingly hold a 6-4-0 record against Pittsburgh over the last 10 meetings.
The total goals projection for Saturday night is 5.5 — a mark the Penguins may score on their own.
Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins (-205) and the Over (5.5)
The fourth and final meeting between these Original Six rivals takes place on Saturday when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the struggling Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Centre.
The Leafs have stayed with the pack in the Eastern Conference playoff race and go into action as -108 underdogs on home ice. The Habs, who’ve been in a complete tailspin in February, head to Toronto as -102 underdogs. The Canadiens have just two wins in their last 10 games and are in danger of losing first place in the Atlantic Division — a position the club has held for the majority of the 2016-17 campaign up until this point.
Auston Matthews will look to continue his hot run as the 2016 No. 1 overall pick has eight points in his last six games.
The Leafs will be eager to snap a horrendous 13-game losing streak against the Canadiens. The last time Toronto defeated Montreal was Jan. 18, 2014.
Expect a high-scoring game when these two rivals meet — their last match produced eight goals. Take the over on BetOnline’s 5.5 total goals projection with the Leafs squeaking out the victory.
Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs (-108) and the Over (5.5)
The Eastern Conference’s two wild-card teams will do battle on Saturday night when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the visiting New York Islanders at Nationawide Arena.
Once the NHL’s hottest team — winning 21-straight games — the Blue Jackets have cooled off winning five of their last 10 contests. The Jackets are -141 favorites on home ice, where the club boasts a 21-9-1 record this season. The Isles, who head to Columbus on a three-game winning streak, are intriguing +128 underdogs.
The Blue Jackets and Islanders are among the highest scoring teams in the league, both ranking in the top 10 in goals for.
The Islanders have owned the Jacket over their last 10 meetings, winning seven of those games during that stretch.
If you’re betting the over/under, the total goals projection has been pegged at 5.5. But expect a lower-scoring matchup, with the Islanders keeping their winning streak alive.
Pick: New York Islanders (+128) and the Under (5.5)More articles...
