Poland vs Switzerland Euro 2016 Game Preview

Poland vs Switzerland Euro 2016 Game Preview
Switzerland and Poland meet in the round of 16 of Euro 2016 at 3:00 p.m. CET on June 25 in a game that could be settled by an odd goal. Who will progress from this game? Let’s find out.

Euro 2016 Round Of 16 Game Prediction

By Matt Pitt

As expected, Switzerland progressed from Group A by finishing in second place behind host nation France, ending the group stages with five points following a win over Albania, and draws against Romania and France.

The Swiss go into this game at +220 to win, with the draw at +190, and a Polish victory priced at +162.

Having only conceded a single goal during the group matches, against Romania, and managing to prevent the French from scoring, there is no doubting the Swiss’ ability to defend.

However, that solid defense seems to prevent Switzerland from expressing themselves further down the pitch, and the fact they only scored twice during the group games should be a worry for their management and fans.

Xherdan Shaquiri

Switzerland have only won one of the previous 10 games with Poland, and have drawn five times, losing four games. They need Xherdan Shaqiri to rediscover the form he showed in the English Premier League if they are to break down Poland and progress to the next round.

Poland only scored twice in Group C and did not concede a single goal, this despite facing the dangerous Germans.

In Robert Lewandowski, Poland have one of the world’s best forwards, but he has been kept quiet so far at Euro 2016 by some astute man-marking that has kept him from showing his brilliant best.

Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski is likely to be heavily marked by the Swiss, but the +400 on him to score first looks good, or the +175 to score anytime, although I also like the +450 available on their being no goalscorer.

The most popular scoreline looks to be 0-0 (+500) 1-0 to Poland (+500) or 1-0 to Switzerland (+600), showing that the bookmakers do not expect this game to have goals galore.

My gut feeling says that Poland will edge this game by a single goal, the goal coming from Lewandowski. Odds of +550 are available on Lewandowski to score first and Poland to win, and that to me looks like the best bet to make on this particular game.

Pick: Poland 1-0 with Lewandowski to score (+550)
