Predators face must-win situation in Game 3
Take the Preds in Game 3
Here are a few Stanley Cup Final betting lines to consider, with odds courtesy of Bovada.
The defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins are in the driver’s seat two games into the Stanley Cup Final. Up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series, the Penguins will look to take a commanding lead when the club travels to Nashville to face the Predators in Game 3.
The Predators are faced with a must-win on Saturday night and head into the contest as -135 favorites despite being outmatched in the opening two games of the series. The Predators have been lights out on home ice during these playoffs, losing just once at the Bridgestone Arena. The Penguins have fared well away from PPG Paints Arena, but heading into Nashville as +115 underdogs, it will be a challenge for Pittsburgh to steal a victory in the Music City.
Experience has prevailed through two games, as the Penguins — even with a depleted defensive lineup — have been able to stymie Nashville’s top scorers. Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, as expected, have been the leaders for the Penguins so far — combining for four points in two games.
Several online sportsbooks have set intriguing Game 3 odds, including total goals. The first couple games of this series have gone over the projected goals total — combining for 13 tallies through the opening two contests. Bovada has set a -155 line that the Predators will surpass a projected 2.5 goal total for Game 3. The same wager for the Penguins will pay -115.
Pekka Rinne looked virtually unbeatable prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Final, entering the series with a 1.70 goals-against average. However, after a couple of rough outings for the Predators’ goaltender, Rinne’s GAA has now dipped to 1.98. He’ll have to be much better against a Penguins club hungry to secure a second consecutive championship.
Bovada is also offering a couple enticing game props bettors may want to consider heading into Game 3. The first two games have been far from overtime matchups, so will the third tilt break that streak? Bovada is offering +305 odds if Game 3 heads to overtime — not a bad wager considering this series has yet to see a tight-scoring contest.
After a couple of high-scoring games, it’s no surprise the over/under projection is set at 5.5 goals for Saturday’s matchup. However, expect a low-scoring affair in Game 3, with the Predators finally getting back into this series.
Pick: Nashville Predators (-135) and the under (5.5)
