Pressure on Rangers heading into critical Game 3 vs. Sens

Pressure on Rangers heading into critical Game 3 vs. Sens
The Eastern Conference semifinal between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators shifts to the Big Apple on Tuesday night as the clubs will clash in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers, who go into the match as favorites, can’t afford to drop a third straight game in the best-of-seven series.

Rangers and Blues to win on Tuesday

Here are a few NHL betting lines to consider, with odds courtesy of Bovada.

New York Rangers (-165) vs. Ottawa Senators (+145)

Sens Rangers

The pressure is on the New York Rangers, who head back to Madison Square Garden down 2-0 in their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Ottawa Senators.

The Rangers will look to slowly claw their way back on Monday night when they host the Senators in Game 2 of the second-round series.

Playing on home ice will be an advantage for the Rangers, who enter Tuesday’s contest as the -165 favorites.

In a surprisingly high-scoring series, the Senators head to the Big Apple as +145 underdogs with the club averaging 2.88 goals for per game — an improvement from their 2.55 rating in the regular season.

NHL playoff odds

After letting two-goal leads slip away twice in Game 2, the Rangers will be desperate to lock down a victory on home ice where the club holds a 2-1 record in the post-season.

Coming off an 11-goals contest, expect the Rangers and Sens to play more conservatively in the defensive zone on Tuesday. The projected total goals line for Game 3 is set at 5, however take the under with the Rangers coming out on top to make the series a little more interesting.

Pick: New York Rangers (-165) and the under (5)

Nashville Predators (-170) vs. St. Louis Blues (+150)

Preds Blues

Faceoffs are critical this time of year.

The Preds, who own a 2-1 lead over the Blues in their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal, have been dominating in the faceoff circle and it’s shown on the scoreboard.

With a faceoff percentage of 54.5, the -170 Predators can really take control of the series when the two Central Division rivals meet for Game 4 on Tuesday night in Nashville.

The Blues — +150 underdogs — dropped the first game in the Music City but will be looking to regain home ice advantage with a victory on Tuesday.

The Predators have surprisingly been one of the best offensive teams in these playoffs, notching 3.14 goals for per game, while only allowing a league-leading 1.43 at the same time.

Much of that success is due in part to the play of Nashville goalie Pekke Rinne, whose 1.38 goals-against average ranks at the top.

Two of the three games so far have gone under projected totals and you can expect the same in Game 4 with the line set at 5.

Pick: St. Louis Blues (+150) and the under (5)
