Everyone in New York City is breathing a little bit easier following the Rangers’ Game 3 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
The Rangers can draw even in the Eastern Conference semifinal on Thursday night when they host the Senators in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden.
New York enters the crucial matchup as -170 favorites playing on home ice, where they’ve only dropped one game in the playoffs. The Sens want nothing more than to steal Game 4 in the Big Apple and head back home with a chance to end the series. The club will have another tough challenge as +150 underdogs.
Erik Karlsson, who is tied for the team lead in points with eight, continues to prove he’s beyond human by logging an average of 30-plus minutes per game. That’s nearly six more minutes than the next defenseman Dion Phaneuf, who is on the ice 24.52.
This series has turned into somewhat of a goalie duel between Ottawa’s Craig Anderson and New York’s Henrik Lundqvist. With the excepting of Game 2 where both clubs combined for 11 goals, this series is exactly where we expected it to be in terms of scoring.
The Rangers have been average when pegged as favorites, posting a 3-2-1 record in their last 10 games. The Sens are above .500 when going into games as a underdogs with a respectable record of 4-3-1 during the same stretch.
These clubs are so evenly matched, this is anyone’s series. Both are averaging just over 32 shots per game. However both teams need to be better on the man advantage as the Rangers and Sens have netted one goal apiece on 11 power-play chances. In fact, New York’s power-play rating of 7.7 percent is last in the league.
Looking for some intriguing proposition bets? Sports Interaction has you covered. The popular online sportsbook is offering 13.00 odds the Senators will lead 2-0 after two periods of play. The same wager for the Rangers would pay 9.00. For instance, a $100 wager on New York would pay a cool $900 plus your initial wager.
Much like previous games in this series, expect the goals to come early rather than later in the contest. An enticing bet is Sports Interaction’s 2.34 line the Rangers will score four goals in the game.
Head-to-head over the last 10 meetings, the Sens have held the advantage, winning six of those games during that stretch.
Betting on the total goals line can be a challenge considering games have been all over the map. The total goals projection for Thursday’s contest is set at 5 — a mark that these two teams will surpass, with the Rangers notching the series at two games apiece.
