Who Will Win The MLS CUP?
Toronto’s Big Red Machine continues to dominate as the Major League Soccer season winds down. Firmly holding on to first place in the Eastern Conference, Toronto FC should be considered strong favorites to win the MLS Cup — a trophy the club watched slip through their hands in heartbreaking fashion a year ago.
However, if the old saying, “you must learn to lose before you can learn to win,” bettors may want to jump on the TFC bandwagon very soon. Several online sportsbooks, including Bovada.lv, are pegging Dallas FC as the odds-on favorites to win the MLS Cup in 2017.
Dallas FC (+700)
The race for first in the West is heating up, FC Dallas is right in the thick of the battle. That’s thanks in part to Maximilliano Urruti, who has led FC Dallas’ scoring attack throughout the season. While Dallas’ offense ranks with the best in MLS, it’s the club world-class defense which makes them +700 favorites to win it all.
Dallas boasts one of the best back four in the league and it has showed this season, as the club has allowed the second fewest goals against in Major League Soccer. The only flaw in FC Dallas’ game right now is the club’s inability to produce on the road.
Toronto FC (+800)
You have to wonder where Toronto FC would be without the Atomic Ant — Sebastian Giovinco. The crafty forward has now scored 50 regular-season goals with the Reds, who are +800 favorites to win the MLS Cup. Giovinco, along with Jozy Altidore, make up a big chunk of TFC’s offensive production — both among the league leaders in scoring during the 2017 regular season. Toronto FC is nearly unbeatable on home soil, where the club boasted an incredible 8-0-3 record at the start of August. Much like FC Dallas, TFC has one of the best offensive attacks in the game and they’ll look for it to carry them to another MLS Cup final.
Chicago Fire (+800)
The off-season addition of German national Bastian Schweinsteiger has elevated the Chicago Fire to a whole new level. The former Bayern Munich star midfielder left the German league powerhouse to join the Fire — a move that has helped propel Chicago into a legitimate MLS Cup contender. Sitting in second in the East and chasing Toronto FC for first place in the conference, Chicago ranks among the best teams in the league as far as offensive production. The dynamic duo of forwards Nemanja Nikolic and David Accam have been Chicago’s most prolific scorers this season, as both sit in the top three in goals.
New York City FC (+900)
Another Eastern Conference team makes our list of top MLS Cup contenders. New York City FC has lived up to expectations as the come in at No. 4. Bovada is pegging New York City FC as +900 favorites to win the MLS Cup — a highly likely probability as long as striker David Villa is in the lineup. Villa, who is among the league leaders in goals with 14, has generated the most shots in MLS this season. NYC FC’s chances of winning the East seem unlikely, but the highly offensive side can make a lot of noise when playoffs roll around.
Sporting Kansas City (+1100)
Western Conference-leading Sporting Kansas City comes in No. 5 on our list, with amazing odds to consider. The parity in the West seems much closer than what you see in the Eastern Conference, but Kansas City is in a three-way race for first place along with FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo. No team in MLS has allowed fewer goals than Sporting Kansas City, which has arguably the best defense in the entire league. Having given up just 17 goals through 22 matches, Kansas City should be considered contenders for the MLS Cup. At +1100, bettors will be enticed to take a chance on KC as well.MLS CUP Prediction Toronto FC (+800)
